In my piece Real Value, there is a jewel box with a piece of soil and directed light. This piece questions the value of the soil and our luxuries as individuals. Mine, Yours, Ours is a multimedia installation with two filing cabinets containing various elements in each of their drawers that explain the hierarchical relationship within the bureaucratic process of mining concessions. Each drawer is a story of exploitation of the soil along with some of its enviromental consequences.
Désirée Coral is a multidisciplinary artist researcher. I observe the relationship between Humans (with capital H, who control economic and political privilege), the other humans and nature. In order to understand these relationships in terms of hierarchies, exploitation and the environmental and social consequences within capitalism, Coral researches the environmental footprints of commodities and the social histories behind them.
