Within an interdisciplinary context, process functions as a language between mediums. Weaving and architectural supports are the underlying structural realities that the painted image is built upon. Blank Canvas for a Landscape and Blank Canvas for an Oil Painting utilize the languages of painting and fibers to talk about the complex histories of land as an underlying structure that humans paint their story upon. Blank Canvas for an Oil Painting and Blank Canvas for a Landscape are woven out of sales receipts.
Samuel Ezra Fisch is a fibers artist whose work explores the interplay between socio-political systems of thinking and the individual’s expression of belief structures. Interactively connecting individuals with material that is a fundamental part of their life, Fisch’s work moves beyond the object world into the subjective. After receiving his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2015, Fisch co-founded Fat City Arts, an artist co-op in Chicago. Fisch has shown his weavings in the Mary R Koch Art Center, CICA Museum South Korea, and The Marin Museum Of Contemporary Art. Fisch’s Instagram account is samuelezrafisch.
